Coventry EMA Reiterates Fire Safety

Residents should be reminded that opening burning is currently prohibited.

The following has been provided to Coventry Patch by the Coventry EMA:

The Coventry Emergency Management Staff would like to remind the public that the National Weather Service continues to place Rhode Island at an elevated risk of fire potential due to wind, dry conditions and lack of humidity. While there is no current “Red Flag” warning in effect, the Town of Coventry has experienced no fewer than five substantial brush/woodland fires in the last week.

The Coventry Emergency Management Staff would like to remind our residents that open burning, (with the exception of cooking grills), is prohibited in the Town of Coventry and requests cooperation with this matter. Violators may be subject to fines.

We are expecting substantial rainfall this weekend that will lessen the potential for fire short term, but without an increase in precipitation in upcoming weeks the elevated risk may remain.
