CCFD Firefighters to Protest During Rep. Morgan's Fundraising Event

The following is a statement provided to Patch by Coventry Professional Fire Fighters, Local 3372 union president David Gorman Wednesday evening.

The Central Coventry Fire Firefighters will be joined by firefighters from around the state in a demonstration against State Representative Patricia Morgan (R-Dist. 26, Coventry, Warwick, West-Warwick), says David Gorman, President of the Coventry Professional Fire Fighters.

Morgan is set to host a fundraiser at the Midville Country Club in West Warwick at 7 p.m. Thursday evening, however, her supporters will be greeted by demonstrators from the Rhode Island State Association of Fire Fighters when they arrive there this evening, said Gorman.

Gorman avers it should be no surprise to Morgan or any others for that matter that the firefighters will be picketing this event and that the firefighters vow to have a continued presence at every other event she intends to host for as long as she continues to be dishonest and disingenuous to the public for which she was sworn to represent.

“Her consistent misrepresentations of our wages and benefits as well as her continued encouragement to shut down the largest fire district in the state, without a real, substantive plan for the public’s health and safety are what we are protesting," Gorman said. "The public needs the truth, they do not need more lies from Morgan."

The firefighters maintain that Morgan made it a point to inflame the general public and to exploit the situation for her political gain.

“Over the last two years Morgan has been fabricating stories, misrepresenting the facts, and disseminating her propaganda through her [taxpayer taskforce group] in an attempt to incite outrage and discontent in Coventry, and for no other reason than to push the political agenda and misguided ideologies of her special interest groups”, Gorman continued.

"We are demonstrating tonight and the firefighters believe that Patricia Morgan and her political cronies should be held responsible for the continuance of the embattled CCFD debacle," Gorman said in closing. "This mess has been blown way out of control because of her constant and continued misrepresentations. We would have been out of the court and out of the special mastership by now if it weren’t for her dirty politics. Morgan has done nothing to help the situation in a positive manner”.
