TELL US: When Should You Turn On Your Heat?

With heating prices on the rise, when's a good time to turn on your heat? Before Columbus Day? After Halloween?

Brrr! If you're like me, you like to save money wherever you can and that includes heating costs.

This year, I'm doing my best to save on heating costs by wrapping up under nearly every blanket in the house. I'm hoping to not turn on the heat until well after Halloween this year, but it's getting chilly!

What about you? When do you turn on the heat? We asked this question on Coventry Patch's Facebook page on Thursday and here's what others had to say:

Tracy Rodriguez Prince: I turn the heat on when I'm cold! I don't care what the date is.

Christine Berard Ongano: I take it one day at a time. I don't have my heat on now...agreed the nights are chilly but if you wear pj's to bed & cover up w/a blanket...your fine! Absolutely no reason...YET...to put the heat on! I'd wait until snow if I could!

Debbie McCormick: November 1st, put on a sweater!

Alice C D Carney: I'm about 5 minutes away from turning my heat on at any given moment.

DerekandJacklin Jervis: I just keep an eye on the temp in the house. If it goes down to 70 by the time I am ready for bed then I turn the heat on for the night. Don't want the little ones up all night crying because they are cold. I would rather pay the bill then lose sleep!

Mandy Sugrue: with oil i try to hold off until at least nov. 1st (pre-kids I would fight it with the fireplace and layers until turkey day) but with a newborn, tonight might just be the night.

Donna St Jean Hagenburg: Woodstove is going now.

Derek Cohen: Did it today.

Linda Kalenkiewicz: I turn it on whenever its chilly! Stay comfy my friends!

Erin Shalvey Dubeau: I wait as loooong as I can.

Stephanie Caldwell: We'll have it on once it starts freezing at night, the auto thermostat is our best defense against the oil bill, set it for 68 during the day and 70 from 4pm-7am.

Vianne Di Candito Thibeault: Haven't use it yet...but I have use my electric mattress pad to warm up the bed at night.

Jenn Gould: I leave my thermostat on 64 all winter long. I HATE the heat. I'd sleep in a snowbank if I wouldn't get frostbite! LOL

Victoria Silvio LaForce: I would like to turn it on in the morning but have not as yet. Hate cold mornings but love it chilly at night.

Mike Bottaro: Stacking wood for the wood stove!
