Fire & EMS Contingency Plan

When will the residents be informed of any potential contingency plan that will provide 24 hour, 7 day a week fire & ems service that we as residents of Coventry deserve?  There seems to be a cloak of secrecy in regards to this topic.  Perhaps the Town Manager & Town Council could step to the plate and work out a plan to salvage the CCFD.

Or tell us, someone, how we go about having ONE town FD paid for with property taxes, staffed by professionals?
Kent Novak February 23, 2014 at 02:22 PM
A good start would be for the Town Manager and/or Town Council President to simply contact the Town of East Greenwich and see how they changed their 200+ year old chartered fire district to a municipal fire department. It was a seamless transition. Coventry should have 1 Fire Department, 1 Fire Chief, and 1 tax bill. A win, win, win!
Chris Anderson February 23, 2014 at 03:38 PM
East Greenwich had only one fire district and the Town was already sending out the fire tax bill. Further even though everyone was in agreement (fire dept. and Town) that the Town should take over it still took over a year to implement and did not go smoothly. E.G. is a great example of why this will not be easy to do in Coventry.
Kent Novak February 23, 2014 at 03:54 PM
It could take the Town of Coventry a year or more to implement a plan to have 1 municipal fire department. However, the attorneys involved that made it happen in East Greenwich I bet could make it happen in Coventry if our town leadership desired it to happen.

Hmm, hope they can decide this before the big auction......

Luckycat February 24, 2014 at 09:11 AM
Chris it won't be easy but it needs to be done.
Chris Anderson February 24, 2014 at 09:20 AM
I agree that a municipal fire dept is the best idea (with or without western). My problem is that it cannot be done in time to address the current situation. The collapse of Central has created an immediate problem that requires an immediate (even if temporary) solution. E.G. Should have been as simple as handing over the keys to the new owner. It wasn't. Beyond that, the Coventry Town Counsel has already said they aren't interested in even starting the work to develop a municipal department (something that will take years to study and organize). All these chants about demanding a municipal department are nice, but fail to recognize the problem at hand.

Is there any point looking for answers, When we all know the answers will be again nothing but lies?

Meeting of CCFD tonight at Annex at 7:00. Why? This Board is still going to be the voice of the people. God help us. Baker and D'Agostino have been involved in the meetings for contingency plan from what I hear. Judge already said the don't have knowledge. People please take notice.
harleyrider8272 February 24, 2014 at 11:34 AM
They have no power!! Is this meeting legal???
listening February 24, 2014 at 11:47 AM
According to the Special Master, Judge left them as a BOD to be the voice of the people and they still can have meetings, although they have no power they can make recommendations. Time to let the peoples voices be heard, not just the teabaggers. Come on people, show up and speak up. Funny they are having the meeting the same night and time as the Town Council.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave! After some further digging, it's amazing the relationships that have been forged in this town. The power players are too busy scrambling to protect themselves before they can figure out what needs to be done for the safety and good of the community. One bad move and they could trip out of their comfort zone. Can someone acknowledge the question "what is the contingency plan?". The task force had a plan, maybe the town should give them a call.
Steve Fay February 24, 2014 at 01:45 PM
Annalyn, On the night of March 26, 2013 in the high school gymnasium, patricia morgan who presently is taking up space in the RI House District 26 seat, told me she had the plan. Call her at 401 828 4831. See what she has to say. Personally I don't listen to her for I have never heard speak the truth. My ancestors called it "Speak with fork tongue".

It amazes The S**t out of me that this board does what they want and doesn't follow the judges orders!!! So now there meeting tonight to what getting nothing accomplished like the town is doing.Lets face it the them and the town ain't got a clue and the days are going bye!People should go to these meetings tonight and voice there options on this dangerous matter at hand
listening February 24, 2014 at 02:16 PM
Annalyn, this BOD is the taskforce. The taskforce pushed to get these idiots elected and they were all members. There is no plan, there never was. There was the idea of a plan, which was not feasible. Judge even said so. Good source tells me the debt will be about $10 per thousand. Get your checkbooks ready folks. Oh, and when you get your bills for this liquidation, send a thank you card to all of the players that caused it. Of course unless the tea party, I mean task force, is going to try to break the postal union too.
Annalyn Chaplin February 24, 2014 at 03:05 PM
Steve F, I was being facetious in my last remark re the task force--ms Morgan is over her head in this. I've heard her speak several times on the talk show circuit. Buddy Cianci seemed to help her along as she was lost in the shuffle and could only repeat herself. She lacked knowledge and proved she's not capable to handle such an important safety issue for this community. It boils down to no expertise just her time in the spotlight. Thank you and Listening for your information. I will try to attend the meeting. I won't be calling the rep.
Annalyn Chaplin February 24, 2014 at 07:18 PM
Meeting cancelled ,,,,,, Judge tells BOD they have NO power tells them to cancel meeting. They only can help special Master.
listening February 24, 2014 at 07:26 PM
What help could they possibly offer. Haven't they done enough harm. Legends in their own mind. Probably sold their brains along with their cojones to the tea baggers.
Night Rider February 24, 2014 at 08:08 PM
It may be interesting to point out that our neighbors of EG took over a Fire District that had over 1,000,000 million, yes a million dollars in the bank could have been a good reason to want that,,just a little different set of circumstances here in Oaker country......
Coventry February 24, 2014 at 09:14 PM
Finally the judge slapped them and if there allowed at the next private town meeting then were all allowed in or time for the AG to get a complaint on them!!!anytime said at tonight's town council meeting I couldn't make it family first
MSceen February 25, 2014 at 07:32 AM
You got all worked up for nothing. They didn't have a meeting.
Gem101 February 25, 2014 at 07:37 AM
Here we go again gsjane: THe General Assembly MUST revoke the DISTRICT CHARTERS. Them and only them can do this, they did it in EG. People need to read past post or even the ones below theirs they might find the answers.
harleyrider8272 February 25, 2014 at 09:05 AM
@MSceen ..They didn't have a meeting BECAUSE the judge ordered them not to!!! They would have had it if they could, you and your ilk just don't get it!! You have no more power!
listening February 25, 2014 at 09:21 AM
There is no need to have any meetings. They are wasting our money as taxpayers again just keeping the lights on and paying for heat at the annex to hold a meeting that will amount to nothing. They need to go away and let the chips fall from their blunders.
Bill Overdeaux February 25, 2014 at 04:48 PM
Listening, I have to disagree. They need plenty of meetings, all eight of them, so they can apply ass burn relief cream to each other after the spanking Judge Stern gave them yesterday. They can also use the time to play "share a brain" and see which one comes up with a friggin' clue when it is their turn. Something tells me it will be a lot of meetings they shall need!
listening February 25, 2014 at 06:33 PM
Bill Overdeaux, I just read the Judges Order to Liquidate. Judge left the BOD to represent the people according to the Order even though they have no power. I would have. I would have taken my chances without their representation.
Boris February 25, 2014 at 08:22 PM
Maybe it's time the good tax paying citizens of Coventry rise up and tell the town council what they want and make them earn our votes by doing the right thing here.. instead of the council dictating we are not or better yet "There seems to be no flavor for this here" asked the people what they want....is that so hard.
listening February 26, 2014 at 09:01 AM
What is needed to get it on the ballot? A petition? Where do I sign?
Luckycat March 08, 2014 at 10:22 AM
Yes I agree Boris....TC president has no right to say "There seems to be no flavor for this here".....really? Maybe because no one on that council knows the first thing about how to go about it???? How about a town wide VOTE from the TAXPAYERS to see if there is any flavor????
