George J. Whittaker, US Navy Veteran, Dies at 83

George J. Whittaker, 83, of Coventry, died Monday, August 26, 2013. He was the husband of the late Jacqueline R. (Croft) Whittaker. Born in Providence, a son of the late George and Mary (Dutson) Whittaker, he resided in Warwick before moving to Coventry 10 years ago.

Mr. Whittaker was a tool and die maker and worked at Speidel and Tiffany, retiring in 1985. A US Navy veteran, he served during the Korean War. He was the father of George M. Whittaker, Jacqueline M. Petrarca, Claire M. Tschirley, Lisa J. LeFebvre and James F. Whittaker; brother of Marguerite Vargas and the late Marion Whittaker. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

His funeral service was held Friday, August 30 at Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel in Warwick followed by burial in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904, will be appreciated.
