Smooth Your Wrinkles

The much anticipated arrival of Juvederm Voluma dermal filler is now FDA approved in the US after several years of safety and effectiveness in other countries.  This newest formulation of Juvederm™, is their most advanced and longest lasting.

Voluma™ is derived of Hyaluronic acid (HA), a polysaccharide (sugar) that is naturally in the body which keeps skin moisturized and soft.   Using VYCROSS™ technology—a unique manufacturing process, it provides a high concentration of crosslinked HA for long-lasting results

Clinical studies have shown that Voluma™ can last up to 18 -24 months in most patients.  Due to the thickness of the product, it is primarily used in the cheeks and mid-face area to bring back that youthful appearance that deflates and drops as we age.  The smoothness of the gel gives a soft and natural appearance that looks amazing.  It can also be used in other areas of the face that have lost substantial volume, such as deep nasolabial folds aka those dreaded nose to mouth lines.

Juvederm’s™ other formulations, also derived of Hyaluronic acid,  still have their place when it comes to lessening those superficial wrinkles, filling out under eye hollowing or enhancing lips.

With the lidocaine contained in Juvederm & Voluma™ and Dr. Gallo’s revolutionary micro-cannula injection technique the procedure is virtually pain free, swelling is minimal compared to needle based injections and most patients will have no bruising.

Voluma™ comes in 1ml vials.  How many vials you will need depends on loss of volume and/or desired results.  A younger person will typically need less vials than an older person to receive full correction.  The general rule of thumb is 1 vial per decade of age, but again this can vary due to genetics and lifestyle factors( ie smoking, excessive tanning or poor diet).  I have seen patients in their late 30’s only needing 1 vial and patients in their 50’s maybe only needing 3.

Touch up’s are recommended to maintain your results, as if you do nothing within 2 years all of the product will be gone and you will have to start all over again.  Coming in every 6-9months and adding a ½ to 1 vial will keep your youthful results, which is what most of us strive for.  Plus it is the most cost effective approach in the long run.
