2013 Thanksgiving Football Preview: Coventry vs. West Warwick

The Coventry Oakers will visit the West Warwick Wizards on Thursday, for a morning of Thanksgiving Day football.

WHEN: 10:30 a.m. Thursday

WHERE: West Warwick High School football field, located at 1 Webster Knight Drive in West Warwick.

HOW MUCH: $5 per ticket at the gate.

WEATHER FORECAST: The Thursday forecast is windy and partly cloudy with a high of 33 degrees and a low of 20 degrees. There is a zero percent chance of precipitation. 

TEAM RECORDS: This year, West Warwick is having the better season. Its record is now 9-3, while Coventry's is 5-6.

HISTORY of RIVALRY: Except for the period between 1953-1964, as well as 1976 and 1977, Coventry and West Warwick have faced off against one another during Thanksgiving Day football games every year since 1948. 

As of last year, West Warwick had won 40 of the match-ups, Coventry won nine and the teams have tied twice. 

The Coventry Oakers' last Thanksgiving Day win took place in 2004, when they  conquered the rival Wizards 46-6. (Coincidentally, that was my senior year at Coventry High School…perhaps I'm good luck?)
