Lawmakers on Tuesday will elect a new leader to replace Gordon Fox, the former House Speaker who resigned over the weekend following a criminal probe.
Two front-runners—State Rep. Nicholas Mattiello, D-Cranston, and State Rep. Michael Marcello, D-Scituate, have both said they have enough votes to be the next speaker.
Mattiello, 50, is currently the House majority leader. Marcello, 45, is chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
Matiello said he would focus on "uniting and unifying the House," while Marcello said he would oversee a "sea change," according to the Associated Press.
