Tony Jones Mulling Lt. Governor Bid

"If elected, I would “serve” alone, hire no staff, take no budget, and refuse to accept a salary," he said.

Now that Robert Healey has bowed out of the Lt. Governor's race, a well known local man with ties to East Greenwich, Coventry and North Kingstown, Tony Jones, is thinking of taking the torch and giving it a run himself.

"If elected, I would “serve” alone, hire no staff, take no budget, and refuse to accept a salary," he said.

Like Healy's prior promise, Jones said if elected, he'd spend his time advocating for the elimination of the office of Lt. Governor, which costs taxpayers roughly $1 million per year. The Lt. Governor does not have much power to wield in state government and many argue the position has long since lived out its usefulness.

"Our Idea is a simple one, to continue the good work of Robert "Cool Moose" Healey," Jones, a libertarian, said.

Jones is asking for support via his Web page.

"With your help, we can do this," he said.

Jones currently resides in Wickford.
