What's Your Favorite Local "Stay-cation"?

Vote on the spot you like to visit when you need a local getaway.

With the weather warming and the school year entering the home stretch, it’s time to start making plans for summer vacation.

But for many families operating on a tight budget, an extravagant trip out of town for the whole family simply isn’t a reality, leaving them to consider options closer to home.

That doesn’t mean their summer vacation has to go to waste. There are plenty of things to do right here in town and around the region. This week, Patch wanted to help you become a tourist in your own town. We want to know what are your favorite destinations to hit on your summer “stay-cation.”

Will you take a nature walk through Parker Woodland, take a step back in time at the or spend some lazy days lounging on , or any other of the state beaches.

Vote in our poll below, then share your thoughts in the comments section. Since we couldn't possibly name them all in our poll, add your favorite destinations in the comments section below, and they will be considered for this week's winner.

We'll leave the poll up all week then close voting at 9 a.m. Friday. At noon that day, we'll share your top local pick. Then be sure to watch the site over the weekend when we tally up the top votes and announce the favorite places to be a hometown tourist throughout Rhode Island.

Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

Not sure if the South County Muesum is considered a stay-cation, but I can tell you we had a great few hours there last summer. The farm animals and old one room school house were a big hit with my girls and their 2 friends. They had fun 'playing school' for a while.

Farmer's Market at Casey Farm, then a day at East Matunuck beach, pick up fresh corn at the farm stand on the way home and a BBQ on the back deck and maybe some ice cream from Inside Scoop or Brickley's...why leave home in RI?
