On January 24, 2014 the Firefighters union requested that the Rhode Island State Labor Relations Board conduct an investigation into the CCFD Board for the unfair labor practices and sought approval by Superior Court to proceed with the investigation. When the district entered the Special Mastership back in 2012, all claims and suits against the district were automatically stayed, a legal term for placed on hold.  The Union sought relief from the stay and asked Judge Stern to allow the labor Relations Board to be allowed to move forward with the Investigation.  On Wednesday, Judge Stern approved the request for relief and the Board will now have to answer the charges.

Previously, the same Court granted relief from the stay to the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office to investigate allegations that this same Board has broken the law when relating to secret and closed door meetings and falling to release public information.
