Coventry Resident Featured in URI Production of 'Be Aggressive'

Erika Rethorn performed in "Be Aggressive", telling the story of Laura, who conspires to run off to the "Spirit Institute of the South," a hardcore school of cheerleading, following the tragic death of her mother.

A 2011 Coventry High School graduate was recently featured in the University of Rhode Island Theatre Department's 2013-2014 season-opener, Be Aggressive by Annie Weisman. The high-spirited, yet dramatic production tells the story of Laura, a girl whose life is upended when her mother is suddenly killed in a car accident.

The 11-member cast featured Erika Rethorn of Coventry who portrayed Laura's precocious younger sister, Hannah.

In the play, as Laura struggles to cope with grief, sudden adulthood, and the hell of high school life, she throws herself with total abandon into the world of cheerleading. She befriends popular cheerleader Leslie, a girl with a terrifying zeal for all things cheer. The tension between the superficial veneer of cheer and Laura's very real struggle to find her true self amidst the chaos of teenage life created a thrilling theatrical experience.
