Five Things, July 10: Evening Storytimes, Watercolor Workshop and More

Today is Wednesday, July 10, 2013 and here are five things you should know about.

CPL Evening Storytime: Beginning tonight through August 14, the Coventry Public Library will offer evening story times for children ages 3-8 on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Children are invited to attend these programs featuring stories, activities and crafts in their pajamas and slippers if they wish! No registration is required.

LVKC Conversation Class (Begins Tomorrow!): Are you someone you know an adult ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) student? If so, register today for the Coventry Public Library and Literacy Volunteers of Kent County (LVKC)'s Group Conversation Class! The free small-group program is designed to help students maximize their English-speaking skills. Students will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Coventry Town Hall Council Chambers for 1.5 hours a week for 10 weeks (July 11-Aug. 29). Class size is limited to 10, so registration is required and can be done by calling 822-9103.

Community Garden Help:
The Coventry Community Garden, organized and overseen by longtime resident Gail Tatangelo, is in great need of volunteers to assist with planting, weeding, watering and harvesting through the summer months. If you're interested in volunteering time to the garden that provides healthy food to Coventry residents in need, email Gail at gail660@verizon.net. Feel free to stop by the garden across from Town Hall to lend a hand!

Watercolor Workshop Registration: Today (July 10) is the last day to register for local artist Pam Santos' watercolor painting class on Thursday, July 18 at Greene Public Library (179 Hopkins Hollow Rd., Greene). The creative, instructional workshop will begin at 6 p.m. and will focus on the basic techniques of watercolor painting while capturing the beauty of trees, water and other natural elements. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required and can be done by calling the library at 397-3873 or by contacting Charlotte Boisclair at charlotte@coventrylibrary.org.

Plan Ahead - Pasta Dinner Fundraiser: Tickets are now available for the July 27 fundraising event, "Raising the Roof On Humanity", a pasta dinner organized by the wives and significant others of the Central Coventry firefighters, with the hopes of raising enough money to repair the leaking roof of the late CCFD Battalion Chief Bill Hall's house. The dinner will be held from 4-8 p.m. at the West Warwick Elks Club (60 Clyde St., West Warwick) and will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets can be reserved by emailing events@ccdfaux.org. For more information, visit www.ccfdaux.org.
