Coventry-West Greenwich Elks Celebrate Youth in Sports

By Gina Kingsborough, Coventry-West Greenwich Elks #2285

Over the past several months, the Coventry-West Greenwich Elks Lodge #2285 has hosted five Pasta Dinners for local athletic teams from Coventry, Exeter-West Greenwich, West Warwick and Cranston to celebrate “Youth in Sports”.

Funds used for the dinners were provided by a $2,000 Promise Grant which the Elks Lodge applied for and received from the Elks National Foundation in Chicago.

Each Pasta Dinner was held before semi-final or championship games in order to help “fuel” the athletes for their upcoming game or meet and coincided with the ending of the Fall or Spring sports season for the Coventry High School Boys and Girls Basketball teams, Cranston West Falcons Swim team, West Warwick Mayo Quanchi Judo Wrestling team and the Exeter-West Greenwich Track team.

The Coventry-West Greenwich Elks would like to emphasize that the Elks support our youth, and recognize that sports play an intricate part of education and healthy living, and also and encourage community service for youth.

There were more than 75 Elks involved in preparing the five Pasta Dinners  including Past State Elks President, Exalted Ruler, Past Exalted Rulers, Trustees, Elks Lodge Officers, Elks National Foundation Chairman, Public Relations Chairman and Grant Coordinator, Trustees, Elks Riders #2285, House Committee Chairmen (past and present), House Committee members, valued Elks members, cooks and a “guest chef “ from the West Warwick Elks. Without these valued volunteers, the dinners would not have been possible to help our local youth athletes.

The Coventry/West Greenwich Elks are proud of all the athletes and congratulate them on their successes during the year and during semi- and championship division wins.

Elks care, Elks share.
