CERT Team Collects 569 Pounds of Food During Drive

Donations collected will benefit the Rhode Island Chapter of Pink Heals.

 

Members of the Coventry CERT team gathered at Dave's Marketplace on Saturday to collect food and donations for RI Pink Heals, an organization that benefits cancer patients and their families.

Members distributed filers to shoppers listing which non-perishable items are most needed. By the end of the 8-hour drive, 569 pounds of food had been collected, including canned goods, peanut butter, cereal, paper goods, prepared foods, pasta, snacks and crackers, soap and shampoo, beverages, and other miscellaneous groceries.

Shoppers also donated $878 which was used to purchase Dave's Marketplace gift cards for Pink Heals families.

This was the third food drive held by Coventry's Community Emergency Response Team in less than a year, bringing the total collection to nearly 1,900 pounds of food to benefit the organization.
