Vincent S. "Cat" Perkins, 81, of Yeaton Street, Coventry, passed way on Sunday, July 20, 2014.

Vincent S. “Cat” Perkins, 81, of Yeaton Street, Coventry, RI, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Kent Hospital, Warwick, RI. Born in West Warwick, RI, he was the husband of Ethel L. “Kitty” (Harrell) Perkins. They were married for fifty-six years. He was the son of the late Thomas and Olga (Kowalczuk) Perkins.

Vincent was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal and the Bronze Service Star.

“Vinny” was a prominent figure in the neighborhood and was well liked by all including many kids who knew him as “Mr. P.” He enjoyed bird watching, had a love of dogs especially black labs and an affinity for horse racing. In their earlier years together he and his wife “Kitty” attended many races and visited a number of tracks including Saratoga and Rockingham. Later on they turned to Foxwoods where they spent many Saturdays together and made lots of friends. They were to celebrate their 57th anniversary this September.

Besides his wife he is survived by four children; Bruce Perkins, Sharon Bertholdt, Gary Perkins and Barry Perkins, two brothers; Thomas Perkins and Ron Perkins, nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son; Glen Perkins and two brothers; Francis Perkins and Robert Perkins.

His services will be private and are under the direction of Gorton-Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI.
