Phillip I. Yates, 44, of East Street, West Warwick, RI

Phillip I. Yates, 44, of East Street, West Warwick, RI, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Kent Hospital, Warwick, RI. Born in Newport, RI, he was the husband of Cindy L. (Baton) Yates. They were married for twenty-four years. He was the son of Darlene Yates-Smitherman and the late Ira Burton and the stepson of Alvin Smitherman.

Phillip was a landscaper for Healey's Landscaping for many years. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Boston Red Sox fan.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons; Joshua A. Yates and Charles J. Yates, a sister; Dolores "Lori" Yates, two grandchildren; Aryanna and Isiah, a niece; Toni Yates, a great niece; Ashante Pickens, a great; nephew Dontrell Pickens and a godson; Richard Cooke.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 3:00 pm in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Calling hours will be prior from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Burial will be private. The family also offers an invitation to attend a collation at the Masonic Lodge, 32 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Blvd., Newport, RI.
