Local Boy Scout completes Eagle project

James Gannon, a junior at Coventry High School, completed his Eagle Scout service project on Sunday, October 27. As part of the requirements towards earning the coveted rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must plan, develop, and give leadership on a project that benefits the community. For his project James led a crew of volunteer Scouts from Coventry Troop 11 in constructing room dividers to benefit the Autism Project (http://www.theautismproject.org/about), a non-profit group located in Johnston, RI, that provides support to families and individuals affected by autism.
In addition to executing a project an Eagle Scout candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, earn the rank of Life Scout, serve in a leadership position as a Life Scout for at least six months, and pass a Scout Masters conference and a board of review. As a member of Troop 11 James has had the opportunity to participate in camp-outs on a monthly basis (Recently Troop 11 kayaked the Saco River in Maine and hiked Mount Jackson in New Hampshire), attend the world famous Camp Yawgoog in Rockville, RI, and serve his community through service projects such as Scouting for Food (pickup this Saturday, November 2!).
Congratulations to James on completing his project and best wishes to him as he completes his journey to Eagle!
Troop 11 Coventry meets on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. at the parish center of Sts. John  and Paul Church (next meeting November 7th).
