Karl Nagy, Coventry Firefighter/Korea Vet, Dies at 80

Karl E. Nagy, 80, of Tulip Road, Coventry, RI, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Kent Hospital, Warwick, RI. Born in Providence, RI he was the husband of Marilyn F. (Freeborn) Nagy. They were married for fifty-seven years. He was the son of the late Elmer and Elizabeth (Shultz) Nagy.

Karl was a firefighter for the East Greenwich Fire Department from 1964 to 1986. He worked for the former Freeborn Electric of North Kingstown, RI, Mason's Bottle and Gas, and at Petrolane Gas Company for fifteen years, as well as at Narragansett Restoration for three years.

He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He belonged to the Antique Motorcycle Club of America, was a founding member of the RIAFA Society, was a member of the Little Rhody Model A Club, the RI Antique Tractor Club, was a founding member of the Model T Ford Owners Club, a life member of the East Greenwich Fire Club, and he was a First Lieutenant at Station 2 Company #2. He was also a lifetime member of the East Greenwich Fire and Veterans Association and was a former member of the Slocum Range #36.

Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter; Laurie M. Nagy. He was predeceased by a daughter; Kara Nagy.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11:00 am in the First Baptist Church, 1613 Main Street, West Warwick, RI. A military honor ceremony will immediately follow at the church. Burial will be private.
