Community Update


Eleanor M. (Deane) Gallup, 98, of Coventry, RI passed away on January 3, 2014. She was the beloved wife of the late Benjamin T. Gallup. Born in Woonsocket, RI, she was the daughter of the late Stewart and Celia (Bebb) Deane. She lived in Harrisville, RI, before moving to West Warwick and Coventry, RI.

 A 1937 graduate of RICE (now RIC), Mrs. Gallup was an elementary classroom teacher and principal in the Warwick Public School System for thirty-one years before retiring in 1968.

 An avid reader, Eleanor enjoyed music and gardening and was a member of several arts and crafts groups as well as the Eastern Star, RIC Alumni and Warwick Retired Teachers. She was a former member of Centreville United Methodist Church and a current member of the First Baptist Church of West Warwick, RI.

 Mrs. Gallup is survived by her children; Sabra Card and her husband Bob of Coventry, RI and Perry Gallup and his wife Kathleen of Long Island, NY. She was the grandmother of Barry (Cathy), Gary (Heather) and Kevin (Patricia) Card of Coventry, RI and Benjamin (Dorene) Gallup of Long Island, NY, great grandmother of Raquel, Katlyn, Tom, Jacob, Benjamin, Tyler, Connor and McKenna and great, great grandmother of Isabella.

 Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm with a memorial service to follow at the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home & Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

 In lieu of flowers donations in her memory can be made to the RI Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue Providence, RI 02907 and would be greatly appreciated.
