Coventry Schools Closed For Rosh Hashanah (and 4 More Things)

    No School for Rosh Hashanah: There is no school for Coventry students today in observance of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. This year, the holiday began Wednesday night and ends Friday evening. Click here to learn more about Rosh Hashanah.

    Historical Coventry: Tonight from 7-8:30 p.m., Coventry newcomer New England Farm and Artist, located at 1112 Main Street, will host Mr. Andrew Boisvert, Coventry resident, historian and author of Coventry Patch's Coventry Roots column. He will speak about the local Washington Village neighborhood and the Paine House during the first presentation of what will be a series. A minimal donation to the Western RI Civic Historical Society is welcome.     Elks Fall Pitch Card League: Tonight at 7 p.m., the Coventry-West Greenwich Elks Lodge (42 Nooseneck Hill Rd., West Greenwich) will begin its Fall Pitch (Hi-Lo-Jack) Card League and will continue at that time each Thursday. Cost is $5 per person per week. All adults welcome. At the end of the season, prizes will be handed out at an Awards Dinner. For more information, call Denise at 226-5053.

    Community Blood Drive: From 1-4 p.m. today, the Coventry Senior Center (50 Wood St.) will host a drive to collect blood donations. There is no upper age limit for donating blood in healthy individuals and most medications do not prevent donation.

    Special Religious Development: Tonight from 6-7 p.m., the Special Religious Education (SPRED) Office will hold a "Get Acquainted Night" in the rectory basement at St. Vincent de Paul Church (6 St. Vincent de Paul St., Coventry). If you are a parent or relative of a special needs individual who you would like to see receive their sacraments, you are welcome to come and learn what SPRED is all about.
