More About Town of Coventry Department of Human Services
Coventry's Department of Human Services offers a variety of programs for residents.
The department's headquarters shares space with and operates the nationally accredited Coventry Senior Center. It is also responsible for the Coventry Food Bank located on MacArthur Boulevard. Pat Shurtleff is the head of the department and also the director of the Senior Center.
Human Services social workers can assess for income tested programs, assist in long-ranged care plans and short-term counseling, and act as liaison to other appropriate resources.
The Senior Center provides a meeting, service and recreational space for the town's seniors. Elders may take advantage of the billiards room, wood shop, meeting space, computer lab and dance and exercise lessons.
The Senior Center also provides a number of programs: Meals on Wheels, Kent Hospital Senior Care, AARP Senior Employment Plan, Cornerstone Adult Services and income tax assistance. The Senior Center's newsletter, The Golden Perspective, is available on the Human Services Department website.
