See that picture right there? All that nasty green stuff happens to be "probiotics," otherwise known as the "good" bacteria that many health professionals have recently been praising. In the past couple of years, many products for humans are coming out with probiotics in them.  A great example would be the success of the Greek yogurt Chobani, a company that uses probiotics in its yogurts.  What does this mean for your pets?

Probiotics are microscopic "bugs" that can promote health from your gut to your brain. Prebiotics usually come in the form of fiber and are nondigestible food ingredients that end up in the colon as "food" for good bacteria. Probiotics are being associated as a form of useful therapy or a strain of bacteria that promotes balance of the GI tract. 

Many advocates believe that when sickness, stress or even antibotic use occurs, probiotics makes up the difference to restore good health. These effects such as strengthened immune system, reduced arthritic and skin effects, reduced stomach allergies, and smaller bouts of diarrhea and infection are just some of the positives probiotics bring to the table.

Although probiotics and prebiotics have shown promise and even results, there is still alot of research being done to prove that these micro organisms are out to make your immune system and health better.  This is what carries over to our pet foods. Several brands have started to put strains of probiotics in their diets, simply to help support a pets immune support system. Whether your dog has a history of skin infections, or a sensitive stomach, these diets are being designed with strains of pro and prebiotics to help maintain your pets well-being. 

While it is becoming a more popular supplement to your pets diet, there is a limited amount of products out there that carry this "magic" bacteria.  If you want a specific product or supplement for your pets diet, feel free to stop in and ask for them.
