Thursday's event will feature many works of art and performances in a unique, walk-through environment.
Months of hard work and preparation by dozens of Coventry High School students and faculty members, along with several artists and performers from outside of the school community will culminate at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the school's 2013 Unified Arts Night. This year's event will put a unique spin on the traditional art gallery or music recital model by combining student work from various CHS departments with the creations and influences of local artists. Visual Arts, Technical Education, Music and Dance will all be represented through the featured artwork and performances displayed on Thursday night. The event showcased many types of student artwork created during the school year.
Family and friends of Blackrock Elementary School students came out in droves on Monday night for the school's "Night of the Arts", held at Coventry High School. Visitors were able to view exhibits of student artwork from various grades and listen to musical selections from the 4th and 5th grade bands, 3rd and 4th grade recorder ensemble and chorus.

Student artists from across the state brought their paintings, drawings, mixed media items and photographs to the Warwick Mall for the 30th Annual State 4-H Photo & Fine Arts Show held March 17-19. The event featured more than 200 pieces of art that were judged by local artists and photographers who also offered advice to the artists who learn artistic techniques in their 4-H clubs, school or on their own. In the drawing category, Best of Show recognition went to Junior Genevieve Bradley of Coventry for her drawing “Koi Fish” and Intermediate Emily Walker of Middletown for her pencil drawing “My Family Portrait”. Tiogue students enjoyed five days of rhyme, poetry and creativity when Shakespeare to Hip hop visited their school.
Students at Tiogue Elementary School exercised their minds, bodies and imaginations recently during a five-day Cultural Arts Workshop featuring "Shakespeare to Hip hop". The inspirational and intriguing presentation was organized and performed by Regie Gibson, Marlon Carey and Yunus Quddus, and consisted of storytelling, in-class writing and performance sessions. Students from all grade levels at Tiogue participated in the workshop throughout the week with age-appropriate activities and performances. The legendary musician returns to URI's Ryan Center after five years for a show in April. Tickets go on sale Friday.
According to his website and Global Spectrum staff, Bob Dylan will return to Rhode Island to play at the Ryan Center on April 8 with Dawes. Information has also been distributed via the Ryan Center’s Facebook page, and has been circling around on social media as a result. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 1 at 10 a.m. Tickets are $68 for VIP Floor (limited quantity), $48 for the general public, $38 for URI faculty and staff, and $28 for URI students. The faculty, staff and student tickets are limited. According to staff at the Ryan Center, a formal release about the show is scheduled to be sent out on Thursday morning.
