Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Up To You: Tiogue Ave. Subway

If it were up to you, what would become of the vacant sandwich shop?

All across town, Coventry has its fair share of vacant buildings. Some have been empty for years while others see a rotating crop of businesses.

But, if it were up to you, what would you like to see happen to these buildings? We'll feature one empty building, lot or area in Coventry and ask our readers what they'd like to see there.

A bowling alley? A clothing store? A Japanese restaurant? A movie theater? What do you want?

This week: Everyone remembers when the only Subway in town was located at the intersection of Tiogue Ave., Arnold Rd., and Sandy Bottom Rd.

Sure, the sandwiches were good and way back when, "$5 footlongs" would have been scoffed at by fans of "$2.99 Tuesday", however getting in and out of the precariously positioned lot could take forever!

Since the shop was closed, two more Subways have opened in Coventry and this location sits vacant, with ripped Tyvec hanging off the outside walls.

The intersection has only gotten busier, so what do you think should be done with the building and/or property to make it successful once again OR, do you think a demolition and some new landscaping would be best?

Sound off in the comments.

Knock it all down and expand the park/conservation area that is there.

Personally, a coffee shop other than Dunkin ANYWHERE in town would make me happy!

I agree with Todd. Put in mote grass and expand the park. You can't get out of that parking lot anyway.

Michael,
Why? Its private property.

Lauren,
I read these polls on Patch and I think Really?
Is this a real question?
Coventry pensions are $80 million+ in debt and we care about and old sandwich shop.

Here are a few poll question for your readers:
Who do you think approved the school dept pension that is currently $24 million in the red?
Who hid it from the auditors?
How could Tobin (current town lawyer former school dept lawyer) claim he knew nothing about the pensions when his wife is or was a school teacher and he may have tried to qualify for one of those pensions?

Come on Lauren poll some real questions. Enough with the feel good journalism. Do you want to taken seriously, or do you want talk about "whats my favorite rainbow color?"
or If I had a unicorn what would I name him. Coventry is in a dire financial condition, and we need serious people with real solutions, not what iffs and building parks to nowhere. The taxpayers need an honest unbiased news source, and a reporter to pose real questions. If you want to write feel good articles, or help people with their Christmas wish list apply for a job at McCall's or Good Housekeeping. If you want to be a fiction writer, believe everything Gary Cote and Teddy J have to say. If you want to be taken seriously ask real questions, loose the meaningless polls and demand the truth from Coventry's elected officials and publish it.

Let's go with the park. You can't get in and out of the lot anyway the way the road is now

What ever is put in will have enter/exit problems. Isn't that white house next door part of the sale also? Park would be nice but then that takes that land off the tax roll which wouldn't be good in this town.

A park??? Yea that's a great Idea. All you people who want another park can pool your money together and purchase the land, pay the taxes, pay the sewer assessment, pay to take down the buildings and clean the sites, excavate and dispose of the old septic systems, get RIDOT approval for your new traffic entrance and parking area, Oh and I almost forgot now build yourself a park that nobody will come to.

Coventry Voter: Can I ask, if you hate these kind of posts so much, why did you go through the trouble of finding something that was published a month back, just to run your consistently negative mouth? If you dislike Coventry Patch so much, feel free to disable your account and stop reading.
