Remember, donations can still be made by mail this week to help fund the fuel needed for Central Coventry FD to make this event happen in that district.

Checks with "Santa Fund" in the memo line should be made out to:

Tara, unfortunately, because Greene/Western Coventry is such a large, spread out area, WCFD does not presently participate in the Santa tours. However, they do have a neat event, "Burning of the Greene" where residents can bring their discarded Christmas trees to a bonfire and enjoy music and refreshments. I think that's scheduled for Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. but keep an eye on Coventry Patch for a confirmation in the near future.

Tara.... WCFD made contact with santa a little last minute but he was able to fit Greene into his schedule.... He will be making some stops aboard WCFD Engine 9 tomorrow afternoon. See the update above or contact WCFD at 397-7520 for the location and times... Happy Holidays

If things are so bad financially, is it really necessary to waste all that manpower and fuel to send Santa through the town. I wonder how many of those in the mobile home parks care, since they are mostly adult only communities. Why not just have Santa
sit at one or more fire stations for a few hours and have those that want to see him
go there. If the money is burning a hole in their pockets, give it to charity, such as those who have suffered a fire in their home during the year, or to the residents of Sandy Hook, CT.

Hi Linda, there was a fundraiser held this past Saturday to benefit this event and members of the community have been donating, also. It is a beloved event throughout the town, so there has been support.

Linda, that would make sense, so it will not be done for sure!
Plus the fact that they drive around with the sirens blaring and get people in a panic about why the fire truck is outside their house!!

Linda maybe these miserable people in the trailer parks will come out and show some Christmas spirit !!!! Ya think????

John A.

1:32 pm on Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Why? Because my son and daughter love having him come by in the fire truck. My daughter who is 10 now asks if he is coming every time where here a fire truck drive by the house. Some things you can't put a price on. There are other ways to cut spending and not take more away from the kids. Also if I am correct, I believe they had a fundraiser to help raise funds for this event. Merry Christmas Linda.

they did have a fundraser but they didnt make nearly the amount they said they would need to fund this nonsense !!!! $1800 was the amount i read a few weeks back. and im pretty sure as of this posting today it stated they had only achieved between $200-300... so where is the rest of the money comming from??? If the greatest thing your kid has to look forward to is santa on a fire truck take the kid out side once and a while.

Kristen, the chili cook-off fundraiser raised $250 for the cause, however there have been a number of groups who have come forward to offset the fuel costs in addition to that.

Kristen and Linda, I'm sorry that you have such strong hatred for simple tradition and the little things that make small children smile and enjoy their holidays. I hope the bitterness and anger you have towards these children and towards holiday spirit is only temporary and you find your way back to happiness. Merry Christmas!

Very nice. I'll be heading north in a couple of days to be home for Christmas. My kids are in their 20's and still look forward to seeing the Santa truck (when they're here). If not, I'll be sure to donate and wave.

Kids are the most important in this town, in this state, in this country......to keep them safe, keep them educated, and keep them happy......that is our job as parents....and ANYTHING positive that we can do for them is very important for our future of these small but meaningful things......the nastiness that goes on the world begins with people that don't think events like this are important......it's the least we can do

Sorry for you must be miss understanding my outlook . Its not bitterness Nor hate. There are people struggling to make ends meet and its not hate or bitterness we feel its reality everyday and some one has the audacity to suggest that bringing Santa around town on fire truck should get funds from budget cuts to other Services is appalling. And need people need to have your heads checked. There's a lot more important things we could do for children if thats what makes you sleep at night than Santa on a fire truck that isn't free and it should never take away from other services or use tax payer money. Another thing, shame on you for being so simple minded and ignorant to what the big picture is.

."And need people need to have your heads checked"...
Well I can't figure out what that means, however, when the firetruck and Santa comes around you can take an Ambien and a Midol then go lay down or go hate Christmas with stinkin Lincoln at the State House.

I am a 34 year old childless coventry residence and still open my door for Santa's passing. Kristin if you feel that Santas visit is so annoying why don't you find out what time he will be in your area and not be home. Go out and find some Christmas spirit elsewhere. As for the fundraiser, maybe they didn't raise enough money but I don't doubt that the firefighters themselves are putting what they can into it financially. You sound like Scroodge...please go eat a candy cane!! Merry Christmas!

I'm so shocked by these posts. Thank you Robbio family for taking the time to organize the fundraiser. Thank you to all who helped with your support to raise money to keep this tradition going (over 20 yrs) & last but not least my Central Coventry Firemen.....thank you for all that you do....Santa on a fire truck visiting neighborhoods, I say ...RING THOSE HOLIDAY BELLS, BLARE THAT SIREN, YELL OUT HOHOHO!!!!! Many will be out their waving & and thanking you. Some may not. Just remember everyone this is for the kids who don't care about politics so leave it out & spread some positive thoughts, & joy.
P.S.
That's why they post a schedule so we are aware the loud siren and you don't panic with a fire truck outside your house with SANTA CLAUSE on top.
Merry Christmas

Couldn't have said it better myself!! Thank you Lisa for conveying my thoughts as well. Central Coventry is so very lucky to have this tradition and such wonderful firemen and women. CCFD employees have worked with out pay, are doing this on their own time, and continue to put up with political BS! Bravo to them for thinking of the children during this very magical time of year.

Kristen, Let's look at the simple minded and ignorant comment because for you it starts with the person in the mirror!!!! You are not listening! The money is coming from donations!!! Not any "service" is being taken from .The town took all the money from kids sports three or four years ago. Can we in this town at least do something for the kids!!

It should also be noted that the firefighters who drive the trucks during the details each year, as well as any of Santa's Helpers are doing so on their own time. They have volunteered for the details and are not being paid for them.

I'm not sure what happened but I'm hoping we don't get missed again this year. Are we considered Old Harris as we live behind the Harris Mill or are we just North of Washington Street?

yay, i see the fund raisers didnt make enough to fund the fuel to make these children happy with a santa clause. So we wont be hearing in a few years that when they close some fire departments down that they didnt get to the fire fast enough. After christmas none of you have any right to bitch about any of the money that fire departments use . You all argue about how they spend too much, then argue that they dont spend enough. get your heads on straight and figure out what you want. Then when you figure it out, dont bitch about it a few months later. AND HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS.

My gosh. I know of 20 sets of parents who would give anything right now to be donating to make their children smile with delight rather than paying for their caskets. If you grinchy people care so much about the crippling cost of this small joy, reach down into your pockets and pull out a buck for each of your children who were able to enjoy Santa when they were young. I live in West Warwick, and struggle each day with finances, but you can be sure that if my town was doing this, I would come up with a couple of bucks. So do or don't, but stop being selfish and cheap.

If people were kind enough to donate funds for this event then it is noone else's business...they donated to funds specifically for this event!!! Thank you so much Coventry firefighters for donating your time! I think this year more than any our children need to see there is still good in the world and if Santa sitting on a firetruck makes them happy then I am all for it!!! There always has to be a few people who try to ruin the good in this world...just ignore Kristin and her rants,,,she is loving the negative attention!!!
