Quattrini Appointed Fire Chief in Western Coventry
Steven Quattrini has been chosen for the part-time position and former Captain Kelly Guastini has been promoted to Deputy Chief.
John Humble, Chairman of the Board of the Western Coventry Fire District recently announced the appointment of Steven M. Quattrini, 43, of Smithfield, as Fire Chief for the Western Coventry Fire Department.
Chief Quattrini has assumed command of the Fire Department after the Board of Directors completed an extensive search and detailed interview process that included numerous highly qualified candidates from throughout the area.
Chief Quattrini will fill the Part Time Chief’s position in Western Coventry while also serving as a Captain in the Smithfield Fire Department where he is a shift commander. He brings a professional background as Smithfield Fire Department’s Director of Training and Safety, Lead Instructor for the Smithfield Fire Academy and Division Head for Search and Rescue. Additionally, he is certified as an NFPA Fire Company Officer, Fire Instructor, Live Fire Trainer, Emergency Driving Instructor and Fire Department Safety Officer. He also is a Nationally Certified Firefighter Level II and is a licensed Cardiac Emergency Medical Technician.
Chief Quattrini joined the fire service in 1987 as a Call Firefighter with the Smithfield Fire Department and became a career firefighter in 1993. He lives in the Greenville area of Smithfield with his wife Lori and three children, William, Mikala and Madison.
Being promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief is Kelly A. Guastini who had previously served as one the department's captains. Deputy Chief Guastini has been with Western Coventry Fire since August 2002 and is a licensed Cardiac Emergency Medical Technician and a Nationally Certified Firefighter Level II.
"I'm comfortable knowing that I have the Deputy Chief here on the days that I'm in Smithfield," said Chief Quattrini. "Kelly lives in the district and has done a great job so far of filling me in and keeping me updated with what is happening and has made this an easy transition."
In announcing the department's appointments, Mr. Humble expressed sincere thanks to Donald Hall of Coventry for his service over the past two years as Interim Chief of the Fire Department. Chief Hall recently retired from the Fire Department after serving more than 45 years in various capacities in several fire departments in the Town of Coventry.
"His expertise, especially in the area of Emergency Medical Service will be sorely missed," said Humble.
The Western Coventry Fire Department serves the entire western portion of the Town of Coventry with two full-time and twenty-five, qualified call personnel working out of two stations and operating a fully licensed and certified Advanced Life Support (ALS) Rescue and six pieces of front-line fire apparatus designed to respond to a range of fire and emergency incidents in this large, rural and heavily forested portion of the Town.
