Man Hospitalized After Being Struck With Hammer

The victim is in serious condition after the Friday night incident.

A 34-year-old man is in serious condition at Rhode Island Hospital after being struck in the head with a hammer during an argument with another male on Friday night.

Around midnight on Friday, June 22, Coventry Police and emergency officials responded to 5 Sand Street where they found the victim badly injured after what police believe to have been an argument between two friends that escalated into a physical altercation. Alcohol is thought to have been a factor.

The suspect, James Pavao,, 37, of 5 Sand St., was arrested and charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon.

As of Saturday afternoon, police have not identified the identity of the victim, but have confirmed that he is not a Coventry resident.

Simply because the Coventry poice have gotten very lazy..the crime has gone up because they do not protect us residents as they are paid. Since Chief Laliberty (sp) left office it is getting ridicously bad! Seems though the Coventry PD forgot the laws,,robbery is now entering without permission...grand larceny over 1k - felony- is to much for them to grasp....we need to make changes as we are paying for nothing lately!!!!
