'Kids Reading Across RI' Is Full Swing in RI

The state Office of Library & Information Services recently hosted its third annual kick-off of the summer reading program at the State House.

Families recently gathered at the State House for the Rhode Island Office of Library & Information Services's 3rd Annual Kids Reading Across Rhode Island Kickoff Celebration, featuring Gail Carson Levine, author of Dave at Night.

The event marked the official beginning of the summer reading season, and this year's celebration featured shows by Carmela Cannata and Rose Adler's Performing Conures — more commonly known as parrots — and exhibitions by the RI Museum of Science and Art and woodworker John Magnan.

Libraries around the state — including Coventry Public Library — are taking part in the summer program by scheduling events of their own over the next two months.

On Tuesday, June 26 at 2 p.m., Coventry Public Library is scheduled to host Comic Artist Eric Fulford, who will conduct a Comic Book Workshop for children ages 5 through 12. Eric will guide the audience in drawing and telling the story of brand new comic book hero!
