Healthy Family - All Natural Ways To Beat Allergies

It's that time of year again. Spring is here and an onslaught of pollen is just around the corner. Find out how to fight allergies without heavy medicines.

It doesn't happen to everyone, but enough people suffer from seasonal allergies this time of year that people start stocking up on medications. But for some, those medicines cause adverse side effects like drowsiness. What are some natural ways to beat seasonal allergies?

  • Eat local honey. You can find a list of resources here. Local honey is said to alleviate allergies because it's created by bees that are picking up the same pollen that may be causing your allergies. Eating a spoonful a day for a few months should boost your immunity to those local allergies.
  • Find a chiropractor. While it doesn't work for everyone, chiropractic adjustments can be tailored to help alleviate allergy symptoms in some patients. Correcting spinal subluxations can help the body function better and can help with everything from headaches, back pain, to allergies.
  • Clean your house with natural cleaners. When the pollen finally arrives, it will make its way into your house through open doors and windows. We're all familiar with the yellow coating on tabletops, counters, cars, etc. But when you go about cleaning (even if there's no pollen yet), try to stick with natural cleaners (check out how to make your own at home!) Some people have allergies to the strong chemicals and fragrances in cleaning solutions and don't even realize it. If you eliminate pollen and potential allergy-causing substances, you might find you feel better.
  • Use a neti pot. You might find it gross, but tons of people swear by the neti pot. It's a small teapot-like contraption that you fill with water and pour into one nostril, allowing the liquid to drain out the other nostril. Does it work? Apparently yes, and it might be what you need to drain out the mucus in your nose or the allergens caught in your nasal passages.

Sure, you might have to turn to medicine this allergy season, but adding these tips to you regimine might be the solution to a stuffy nose, scratchy throat and watery eyes. Happy spring!
