Deputy Chief Guastini was Chief Quattrini's first personnel appointment since assuming his position as Chief of the Department.
Chief Steven Quattrini of the Western Coventry Fire Department recently announced the appointment of Rescue Captain Kelly Guastini to the position of Deputy Chief of the Department. The Board of Directors of the Western Coventry Fire District confirmed the appointment and congratulated Chief Quattrini for his excellent choice. Deputy Chief Guastini was a recent finalist in the candidates interviewed for the Fire Chief’s position.
In making the announcement of Deputy Chief Guastini’s appointment, Chief Quattrini cited her extraordinary contributions to the Department over the past thirteen years of her affiliation. Her professionalism and operational acumen during the recent weather emergency and the en-route childbirth in a Department Rescue under her command were typical of the high levels of service for which she is noted in the Fire Department and throughout the Fire District, Quattrini said. He noted that Deputy Chief Guastini was a key member of the operational team in the Town’s Emergency Operations Center during Super-Storm Sandy.
Deputy Chief Guastini joined the Western Coventry Fire Department as a volunteer and call-person in 1999 and became a career firefighter/EMT in 2001 as one of two full time members. She served as Rescue Lieutenant and subsequently was promoted to Rescue Captain where she served until her appointment as Deputy Chief.
She is a Nationally Certified Firefighter Level II and is a RI Licensed Emergency Medical Technician at the Cardiac level and is also certified to provide Pediatric Advanced Life Support. She has completed a range of Federal Homeland Security Incident Command qualifications in the National Incident Management system and is a certified Hazmat Technician. Additionally, she is completing course work for her State certification as an Emergency Medial Service Course Coordinator and is enrolled in a Fire Instructor’s course with the RI Fire Academy.
Deputy Chief Guastini, originally from Harriville, RI, is a Burriville High School graduate. She resides in Western Coventry with her career firefighter husband Peter (Mashantucket Fire Department at Foxwoods) and three children. She is the highest ranking woman in the Western Coventry Fire Department.
The Western Coventry Fire Department is under the command of Chief Steven Quattrini. The Fire Department serves the entire 30+ square miles of the western half of the Town of Coventry with a full-time and part-time membership of roughly twenty-five men and women operating seven pieces of fire and rescue apparatus from two stations.
