Hike and Seal Watch: Looking for something to do with the kids today while they're on school vacation? RI DEM is hosting several free events this week, including today's Guided Hike and Seal Watch at John H. Chafee Nature Preserve in North Kingstown. The 2 ½ mile walk is relatively easy and participants may also catch a glimpse of numerous birds, including loons, cormorants, gulls and mergansers. The walks will take place on the hour at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. The walks begin at the parking areas on Route 1-A. Hikers are encouraged to dress appropriately as the area can be extremely cold in the winter wind. Click here for more info on this week's events.
School Construction Bids: The Town of Coventry School Building Committee is seeking sealed bids for Architectural Engineering firm services for bond construction projects approved in November 2012. Sealed bids will be accepted until 12 p.m. on Feb. 28 at the School Dept. Administration Offices (1675 Flat River Rd.) Click here for complete details.
Rotary Club Dinner: The Pawtuxet Valley Rotary Club is inviting new members to its ranks just in time for its annual Membership Dinner. This year's event, to be held on Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. will host Alex and Ani CEO Giovanni Feroce. Well Owner Workshop: On Feb. 26 at 7 p.m., the RI Dept. of Health and URI will host a free workshop at Loutitt Library (274 Victory Hwy., West Greenwich) for private well owners. During the workshop, those in attendance will learn about regular testing, maintenance and good housekeeping practices for their wells. This is a free program, but pre-registration is required and can be made by calling 874-4918.
CHS Alumni Musicians: Brad DeGraide, choral director and teacher at CHS, and Marina Ferri (Class of 2008) have scheduled an alumni concert for Apr. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium to benefit the CHS Alumni Association. They are looking for former high school musicians who have remained in the music field either as a teacher, performer or music professional.
