Five Things You Need To Know Today, December 18

Today is Tuesday, Dec. 18. Here are five things you need to know:

CCFD Meeting Canceled: The monthly meeting of the Central Coventry Fire District initially scheduled for this evening has been canceled in lieu of last week's Special Master meeting. Upcoming meetings will be posted on Coventry Patch as the dates are made available.

Greene Craft of the Month: The Greene Public Library will hold its Craft of the Month demonstration tonight from 3-6 p.m. This program is for adults and young adults. December's craft is Frosty Salted Pillar Candles. There is a $6 fee per person. Please call 397-3873 to register.

CHS Yearbook Extension: Students and families should be aware that the deadline to purchase a 2013 Coventry High Schoolyearbook has been extended to Dec. 19. Completed order forms with check or money order can be deposited in Mrs. O’Rourke’s mailbox. For questions, contact Mrs. O'Rourke at orourkedolores@coventryschools.net.

CPL Drop-In Games: Children are invited to visit the Coventry Public Library's Youth Services Department from 3-5 p.m. to play board games with other library friends. Select a game from the list, ask a librarian for the game you'd like to play and have fun!

Local Christmas Shopping Info: If you own a business in town or know of one that will host special hours and/or sales for Christmas, post the info below in the comments or e-mail me at lauren.costa@patch.com to be included in the upcoming Coventry Holiday Shopping Guide!

ATTENTION PARENTS: Please join me in emailing the Administration at ASFMS to beef up security for the safety of our children. I emailed them and suggested bullet proof glass be installed where the second set of doors is in the lobby, which allows people to continue into the school, as well as bullet proof glass where the secretary sits, and for that door to be dead bolted. (note: the shooter in CT shot the glass to get in) They can install a drawer, like the banks have at the drive thru to pass items forgotten from home or the clipboard to sign in/out your child. If you have friend's who are concerned as well, please share this and encourage them to write as well. This applies to ALL schools. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but I believe that it takes a village to protect them as well. Pass it on please.
