Early Morning Fire Sends One to Hospital
The blaze caused smoke, water and fire damage to the home.
At 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday, firefighters from Coventry Fire District responded to a home at 8 Bennett St. for a structure fire.
Fire apparatus arrived on scene at 4:20 a.m. and worked to control the fire for about twenty minutes. Chief Paul Labbadia reported that two adult residents were inside of the home when the fire began and one was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but should be released later today.
Smoke and water damage were sustained throughout the home as well as fire damage in the room where the blaze began.
The residence was also home to four cats, one that firefighters found unharmed on scene and three that Labbadia believes ran out when the owner opened the door.
"We can't find them in the house, but that's a good thing," he said.
The fire is still under investigation and the RI Red Cross is assisting the victims with finding a temporary place to stay.
