DPW Transfer Station Notice
Starting in September, residents will be charged a new fee for use of the station.
Starting September 6, 2011 the Town of Coventry will be implementing a $20.00 fee for residents to dump debris at the Transfer Station; four times per year. Each resident who pays the twenty dollar fee will be issued a card which must be presented at the Transfer Station prior to dumping. The attendant will punch the card and give it back to the resident. After the fourth punch the attendant will keep the card for recording purposes.
Only one card may be purchased per household, per year. An additional $25.00 fee will be charged for the disposal of refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and a $20.00 fee will be charged for mattress or a box spring. These fees will apply to these items if they are dropped off or picked up at the curb.
Residents will be able to purchase the ticket or sticker beginning August 24, 2011, for these items at the Public Works Garage during normal working hours. Checks or cash only, no debit or credit cards will be accepted. Residents will not be charged for recycling, yard waste, used motor oil or electronics drop off.
Any questions please call 822-9111 or contact Dennis Smith at dsmith@town.coventry.ri.us or Kathy Eden at keden@town.coventry.ri.us.

And they'll be wondering why tires, refrigerators and air conditioners will be showing up in the woods and along remote road out in western Coventry. Don't we pay enough in taxes already?

Of course we pay enough in taxes. It's the union pay and benefits that keep going up, so we get the short end. Cental Falls had the right idea. I wonder how many other towns wish they could go bankrupt to get rid of the union contracts that are ruining their towns.

This only amounts to $ 5.00 a dump if used 4 times a year = that's not abusive. Will you need to purchase a $ 20.00 ticket prior to dropping the dead AC off, or do you pay the attendant ?

I believe as long as you drop items off during DPW business hours, you can purchase the card at the same time. I'll double check on that, though.

What are we paying such high taxes for? We load our vehicle with our junk, drive to the dump, we unload the junk and we have to pay for it! There goes our woods and vacant lots.

Donna - If this was a Facebook status, I'd have to "like" it. This won't be good for the remote parts of town.

This service is abused by many Cov residents and friends of the DPW workers. If you "Know the Guy" at the gate he will let you in and dump what ever you want. I know 3 cov contractors and a sitting TC member who throw construction waste at the transfer station as many times as they like because they "Know the Guy" at the gate. I have been to the Town Hall and made complaint and nothing happened. The Cov DPW is run like a Country Club with a retirement plan. Go to the TV romm at the DPW in early afternoon and take a look around. There are workers sleeping. They say "well I finished my route early" so your done for the day?? Grap a grease gun or a paint brush and take care of the equipment you say is worthless. I blame the DPW managers and the Town manager for not having the guts to push back the union thugs and straighten out this out of control department. This IS a case of the inmates running the prison
