Cupcake Madness at The Village Inn in Narragansett drew over 1,500 people on Sunday as bakers from all over the state, including the staff of the Coventry Cupcake Company, gathered to compete in the confectionary competition.

The local bakers, who currently operate out of a rented kitchen, were one of three to make the final round bake-off, sequestered for more than an hour in the establishment's kitchen.

Cupcakes of every imaginable flavor and design were arrayed to tempt the collective willpower of the teeming crowds - which, on several occasions, was found lacking.

But there were no tears shed for dieters this day - only smiles and lighthearted conversation as bakers of every stripe showed off their skills.

Coventry Cupcake Company took home third prize in the "Best Cupcake" category with another Coventry contender, Stephanie's Sweet Treats earning first place in the Vegan Cupcake category and third in the Gluten-Free category.
