Coventry Resident Charged with Drug, Conspiracy Offenses

Richard Smith was one of two men arrested during the alleged May 2012 events.

 

The Statewide Grand Jury today reported out an indictment charging Richard Smith, 31, of 15 Eisenhower St., Coventry and Matthew Ives, 30, of 83 Manchester St., West Warwick each with one count of possession of marijuana over five kilograms, one count of possession with intent to deliver, and two counts of conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substance Act.

In addition, Ives is charged with one count of possession of a firearm with in possession with intent to deliver.

It is alleged that on or about May 24, 2012, Ives and Smith were in possession of more than five kilograms of marijuana with the intent to deliver and conspired to violate the Controlled Substance Act. It is further alleged that Ives was in possession of a firearm, a Glock .45, while in possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

The alleged events took place in West Warwick. The Rhode Island State Police conducted the investigation. Ives and Smith are both currently held with bail and scheduled to be arraigned in Kent County Superior Court on August 3, 2012.
