On 12:02 a.m. on Friday, Coventry Police responded to the area of 287 Fish Hill Rd., approximately a half mile in from Harkney Hill Rd. to investigate a one car motor vehicle accident.

According to police, a preliminary investigation showed that an 18-year-old male was operating a black 2002 Honda Civic southbound on Fish Hill Rd. when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Central Coventry Fire and Rescue Personnel responded and extricated the male from his vehicle where he was pronounced dead at the scene by the state medical examiner.

The driver is identified as Douglas Auger, age 18, of Weaver Hill Rd., Coventry RI.  Doug was a recent graduate (2012) of Coventry High School. Coventry High School Principal Michael Hobin advised that the high school will be open on Saturday August 18 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Councilors will be available.

The accident remains under investigation.
