Coventry High School will be celebrating Homecoming on September 21 and 22, 2012. The events are coordinated by the Student Council in cooperation with the athletic department.
On Friday, September 21, the Knotty Oakers football team will take on Tollgate High School at 4:00 p.m. at CHS.
The festivities will continue on Saturday morning with the annual homecoming parade, whose theme is Board Games. Following the new route established last year, the parade will step off from the Alan Shawn Feinstein Middle School at 10:45 a.m. It will proceed to Knotty Oak Road, Route 117, Sandy Bottom Road, Wood Street, Rathbun Street, South Main Street, Tiogue Avenue and Reservoir Road, where it will conclude at the high school.
More than 250 students will be participating in the parade that will include floats from the four classes, the student council, and DECA. Also, the high school marching band will perform. Joining them will be the football cheerleaders and the AFJROTC Color Guard. Rounding out the parade will be convertibles transporting the homecoming king and queen finalists, as well as several fire trucks. There will candy distributed to the viewers along the parade route.
Saturday evening there will be a semiformal dance, attended by over 800 students, from 7-10 p.m., in the high school gymnasium. The theme of the dance will be Just Dance 2012. The crowning of the king and the queen by Talia Pecchia and Joseph Nardolillo, last year’s winners will occur at the dance. Finalists for king are Scott Botelho, Mike Pesola, Corey Rogers, Zach Szymkowicz and Tyler Vigeant. Homecoming queen finalist are Sydney Dwyer, Kristin Gallagher, Mackenzie Mitchell, Michaela Paolucci and Gianna Rocchio.
