UPDATE: Officials Deem Vehicle Fire Suspicious

The blaze is still under investigation.

 

Update - July 31, 1:53 p.m.: According to Central Coventry Fire Interim Chief Dave Gorman, Monday night's blaze began in one vehicle and extended to the brush in close proximity to the building at the address. Three additional vehicles were damaged from radiant heat.

Along with , both the state and town fire marshals were on scene and deemed the fire suspicious, especially when considering the that have been reported in the area in recent weeks.

"Police are stepping up their patrols in the area," said Gorman. "One of our concerns is that if a possible arsonist began with brush fires then moved to vehicles - what is his next step?"

An exact cause has yet to be determined, however the incident is still under investigation.

Update - July 30, 9:44 p.m.: According to reports, 17 cars were being stored in the parking lot at 1586 Main Street. Four vehicles are said to have been damaged by the fire. 

The Fire Marshal is currently on scene investigating the incident. Check back for more details as they become available.

July 30, 9:07 p.m. At 8:59 p.m. on Monday, Central Coventry fire crews responded to multiple calls of a car fire in the area of 1586 Main Street.

According to scanner reports, upon arrival, firefighters found the vehicle fire to be fully involved.

Central Coventry's Fire Marshal, David Godin was called to investigate the cause of the blaze which has yet to be determined.
