80 Seatbelt Citations Issued During Click It or Ticket

Coventry's involvement with the initiative was just one of many statewide.

During the federally-funded statewide safety initiative, Click It or Ticket from Sept. 24-30, Coventry Police officers targeted motorists and passengers who failed to wear a seatbelts while driving.

During the week-long crackdown, Coventry officers worked 18 four-hour details at various locations in town. Depnding on the time of the detail, officers monitored intersections on foot, looking for drivers and passengers without seatbelts on or would patrol the streets of Coventry in department cruisers while in search of violators.

The details resulted in 128 stops and 80 seat belt citations at $85 per ticket, totalling $6,800 in fines. Two arrests were also made for operators driving with suspended licenses.

Also during the month of September, officers worked 17 four-hour DUI details resulting in 124 motor vehicle stops, 3 DUI arrests and one suspended license arrest.

Class 98, Sandy, "uncle" bob,
Sandy was slightly off in saying the prevention part but she's got the right idea, Class 98 hit it on the head. It''s like paying taxes..it's the law and you do it..period. But Uncle Bob C'mon man..that click it or ticket adds, ADDS, puts more on the street- police not takes them away from anything. So you now have above the normal amount of police and they are getting paid by grants from insurance companies not tax payers etc to help the insurance companies stop paying the galaxy high medical bills caused by preventable injuries of the less educated.

@ Sandy Lukowicz, another union hack living off our taxpayers money on a pension, plenty of time to spew her wisdom to the lucky patch readers. I suppose the CCFD is doing a "wonderful job" also, that's why 52 firefighters are working for free, maybe you can chip in to pay some of their bills.
