What an Oxymoron! Public Safety Committee Meeting????
Tomorrow (Dec. 7) at the Coventry Town Hall at 2 p.m., Rick Land, Special Master for the Central Coventry Fire District fiasco (who by the way is costing CCFD over $1,000 per day) will convene a “Public Safety Committee Meeting” to discuss the fiasco and other matters regarding CCFD. Here is the irony…this meeting is not open to the public or the press!!!
There will be one Central Coventry board member allowed and for sure, at this time it is NOT one of the new members, Marie Fisher or David Jevis, who the taxpayers in this district unanimously supported and elected because of their credibility and their honesty.
Therefore, that means it will probably be the President, Joe Bonn, who in my opinion is a prime mover (as other former members are; excepting Bob Crowe) as to why a single safety run in CCFD costs you on average $2,067!!! He is the same person, in my opinion, who took part in corrupted union negotiations and turned a $500,000 surplus into an over $2 million deficit because of his actions.
Rick Land, Special Master, has chosen to bar any member of the public to be on this committee. As part of the special order from the Judge, it was Mr. Land’s discretion as to who would serve on this committee, So in essence, the only information that the public will receive (other than 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6thparty hand me down information) will be what Rick Land decides you should hear. Also, Mr. Land is the same person who has not had the courtesy of giving you an advance budget for review.
I can clearly understand that at certain meetings public questions and input are clearly not allowed. But why should the public NOT be allowed to know what discussions take place at this meeting since it is all about their safety!! We know what it is about and how important it is to the community, and yet, all information coming down to the public will be second hand.
It seems that Mr. Land really does not want the public to know too much. He has called a special master’s meeting for the taxpayers of Central Cov Fire District, Mon Dec. 10th at 7 p.m. to present a budget and set a tax rate, but he will not announce in advance his estimated budget figures , new tax rate or projected increase!
