Serpa Appointed as Chair of Small Business Committee, Member of House Oversight
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Patricia A. Serpa (D – Dist. 27, West Warwick, Coventry, Warwick) will retain her position as chairwoman of the House Committee on Small Business from the previous year. She has also been appointed to the Committee on Oversight for the 2013-2014 legislative session.
Speaker of the House Gordon D. Fox made the announcement last week.
The House Committee on Small Business deliberates legislation relating to the streamlining of licenses and permits, eliminating or decreasing bureaucratic steps and delays and uncoordinated or duplicative reviews and filings, and reducing associated added costs to businesses.
The Committee on Oversight reviews the operation and efficiency of various state departments and agencies, fulfilling the legislature’s oversight role following implementation of separation of powers.
“I’m especially excited to begin my work on the House Oversight Committee,” Representative Serpa said. “It is more important than ever to hold a close eye on the direction and implementation of our taxpayer dollars. Every year, we put a lot of time and consideration into crafting a state budget and various policy changes. Our job does not end there – we must also work hard to ensure accountability in the system.”
Representative Serpa is serving her fourth term in the Rhode Island House of Representatives.
